If you’re considering rhinoplasty, you’ve probably heard of the term “custom 3D nasal implant.”
But you might be wondering:
“A standard implant should be fine, right?”
“Do I really need a custom-made 3D implant?”
To answer simply—if your bone or cartilage structure is not typical, or if you’re aiming for a highly natural and precise result, a custom 3D implant is definitely a good choice.

|Why is 3D technology important?
3D scanning technology allows for a deeper understanding of the patient’s bone structure and soft tissue beyond what can be seen with the naked eye.
This enables the design of an implant that is tailored in length, thickness, curvature, and tip shape, making it possible to predict more stable and natural outcomes after surgery.
|Standard Implants VS Custom 3D Implants

Traditional nasal implants are manufactured in different types, with variations in height for the nasal starting point, bridge, and tip.
During surgery, surgeons select a type with a suitable height and shape, then carve and trim it further to fit the patient’s anatomical structure.
For most patients with standard facial anatomy, experienced surgeons can still achieve excellent results using these pre-made implants.

However, for patients with atypical anatomical structures, standard implants may not offer a perfect fit. In such cases, the lack of a pre-designed type to accommodate their unique anatomy becomes a limitation.
That’s why a custom-made 3D implant, designed specifically for the patient’s bone and tissue structure, is often the better solution for achieving optimal surgical results.

In the case shown above, the nasal starting point is deep and curved. As a result, the standard implant does not adhere properly to the bone and appears to be lifted off.

To resolve this, a custom implant was designed to match the patient’s forehead-to-nose line and the curvature at the nasal start point.
The result is a precisely fitting implant that requires no additional carving and maintains its position securely following the rhinoplasty.
